/ṣlìt·ta/ is a decorative and conceptual intervention on a sledge, created for the Courmayeur Design Weekend 2025, dedicated to the theme “Direzioni Impreviste” (Unexpected Directions). The work reinterprets an everyday object through language, perception, and visual rhythm, dissolving the boundaries between functional design and conceptual art.
Across its surface runs the Italian definition of “slitta” (sledge)—without ever explicitly naming the object—echoing Magritte’s paradox Ceci n’est pas une pipe. The text becomes self-referential: in defining the object, it both affirms and denies its necessity, turning description into ornament and meaning into pure form. Language becomes decoration. Letters transform into graphic elements, and typography dissolves into rhythm: the “O” stretches into navy-blue ovals, while vivid orange marks punctuate the words, creating a visual cadence where structure and interruption intertwine.
Like language itself, the project is only complete when experienced. This reimagined sledge—at the crossroads of design, conceptual art, and typography—ultimately took its own unexpected direction when auctioned to support Soroptimist International d’Italia, perfectly echoing the spirit of the event.
