INFO
Thonest is an artistic exploration for the regeneration of forgotten furniture, that transcends the mere aesthetic intervention, to reflect on the language of weaving and its potential within contemporary design.
At the heart of the project it is the iconic 19th-century Thonet 18 chair, reinterpreted through structural insertions that breathe new life into the piece. Traditional Vienna broken-straw is replaced with steel wire woven into nest-like patterns—experimental textures that carry traces of memory, movement and transformation. The wooden frame, left intact, serves as the unaltered anchor of this metamorphosis.
Three discarded chairs are transformed into poetic artefacts, intertwining materials and meanings in a dialogue between craftsmanship and artistic sensitivity.
Art and design converge to reawaken a timeless domestic archetype, inviting a more conscious, intimate relationship with everyday objects—revealing their inherent dignity, function, and quiet beauty.
