INFO
BalanceOut is an installation created for the Late event at the Science Museum in London, themed “Childhood Wonders”. The event was organized to celebrate the opening of WonderLab, a new wing of the museum.
Although participation was limited to an adult-only audience, the event aimed to demonstrate and teach scientific theory in a fresh and playful way, embracing a childlike approach to discovery.
To learn the principle of levers in a practical and entertaining way, visitors are invited to climb onto a gigantic wooden seesaw with sliding seats. By repositioning the seats along the oscillating beam, the weight of the two players balances according to their distance from the pivot point (fulcrum), making each “ride” uniquely customized.
The simplicity and familiarity of the object allow for an immediate understanding of the fundamental mechanical concept under investigation, putting empirical learning into practice and sparking enthusiastic engagement from the audience.
